Deadlines at Christmas :(

Hello again, hope you’re all well and enjoying this festive season, I know I am.

Yaaay we are getting closer and closer and closer towards Christmas, I am so excited… However… In the run up to Christmas I have deadlines believe it or not L Last week I had two essays and a performance, which is A LOT of hard work!

The performance went great which is good and I got an awesome grade, which makes my Christmas a lot better. Then there was the essays L The nightmare that haunts me… Essays! I’m not saying I can’t write essays but give me a stage and I will happily recite a dictionary… Give me a laptop, loads and loads of books and an intense essay question, then I just want to hide. The worst thing is with Drama if you don’t understand the theory then you won’t be able to grasp the practice, it’s about getting them on even scales. It’s not that I don’t understand the theory I just don’t understand how to write it all down.

Now to make things worse I have reflective logs, a research report and an English essay by the end of January… Which sucks but if I get them done sooner rather than later then I can enjoy the beginning of what is going to be a good year. See you in January.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

On the Twelve Days of Christmas…

Hello again everyone J

As you can see, I am beginning to get in the Christmas mood, I know it’s a bit early, but what can I say, the kid in me loves Christmas time. There are so many things to love about Christmas, firstly, the music! Christmas is not Christmas without some jolly sleigh bells accompanying a cheesy Christmas song! Everyone has their different opinion on the number one Christmas hit… But mine is and all always has been…

… That’s right “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues featuring the late Kirsty MacColl. Such a good song, just thinking about it makes me want to dig into a nice Christmas dinner. That brings me to my second favourite thing about Christmas…

…CHRISTMAS DINNER! The turkey, the stuffing, the roast potatoes, the carrots (the only vegetables I eat), the pigs in blankets… All of it is AMAZING! Also, the fact that my mum is an amazing cook doesn’t hurt the situation! Last but by no means least…

…FAMILY TIME! Nothing is better than spending Christmas with family. It’s always loud at my house as I have seven nieces and two nephews ranging from age 1 to age 13 so my house is a lot about the kids at Christmas which is brilliant. It’s a shame nowadays children aren’t really aware of why we have Christmas. In this day and age it is just about getting presents and eating a lot of food.

I hope you enjoyed my short blog on Christmas and what I love about it J Hope you enjoyed. See you next time when we will be closer to the festive day J

Deadline Time

Hello again J

It seems like I only started my third year a few weeks ago and now I’ve got two major assessments due in the first week of December, what’s all that about L

As I mentioned in my last blog regarding my directing opportunity…I GOT PICKED!!!!!!!! So I will be directing a full third year Drama production to be performed in May 2014, so I am over the moon with that news, but this also means that we now have an essay question for the same module which is fun because I like the subject that it’s regarding, but it’s an essay, so I find it very hard to be over the moon with this part of the news. It’s not much just asking for 2000 words so can be done easily but will involve one or two trips to the library… Possibly ten trips.

So on top of this I have another 1500 essay due… I suppose it is a lot better than doing a dissertation J Also I am involved with the Reminiscence Theatre archive (Basically in short, performing to old people in care homes) and we have just been given our roles for that and I have A LOT of lines to learn so I will try to squeeze that in around cramming for these essays. At least it’s coming up to Christmas now and once all the deadlines are done, bring on CHRISTMAS!

Until next time, take care J

Drama Production, Work & Getting Stuck Into Third Year

Hello and welcome back J

So quite a few things have happened since my last blog, I am well underway with my studies of third year, which is very, very exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time. First of all, I do a course which is called Drama Production, basically every year the third year Drama students put on about 5-7 plays and then they each require a third year director and then the rest of the year has to audition for the plays they wish. As I am quite interested in directing I chose to pitch the play Rhinoceros, a French play written by Absurdist playwright Eugene Ionesco.

The play is amazingly funny and a really good piece of drama. So I am very excited to see what happens with this and whether I get chosen as a director, it’s quite exciting, but if I don’t get chosen, I would quite like to act, so it’s fine either way really J

As well as Uni I have gotten into full swing of work as well, my job at the Enquiry Unit has been going quite well, still dealing with enquiries regarding late clearing so constantly busy, which is good. I had my training for my role as a Student Ambassador and that has went well, I’ve done two events so far (On my own) which was very scary because I have NEVER done one on my own, so was quite a new experience.

So far I am feeling very, very, very positive about my third year, which I think is quite important, you can’t succeed if you don’t feel passionate or positive about something.

Until next time J

My Last Ever Freshers Fortnight

Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog J

Since we last spoke I have begun my third and final year of University, which means this is the last time I will be partaking in a Freshers Fortnight, this makes me sadL. It’s been weird this year because I haven’t lived on campus so I haven’t been out every night, unlike the past two years, but I’ve still been involved none the less. I was at both Greenwich and Avery Hill Freshers’ Fairs for Tennis and the Performing Arts Society, it was so fun to meet all the newbies and find out who’s going to be on our teams this year.

Obviously there was the standard night at Sparrows, me and my friends chose the first Wednesday as we were going to use this as our first official Performing Arts Social, which was mega exciting and went down very well with a really good turnout. Things seem to be looking up for P.A. this year which is a great success.

My best memory of Freshers’ Fortnight would have had to been in first year, because it was those two weeks in which I established my close friendship group, to which I am still friends with this day. That’s what I love about Freshers’ Fortnight, you get to meet people outside of your course, for example I went into second year in two flats of nine one on top of the other, so that’s sixteen people I was practically living with and not one of them were on my course, which is great to have your friendship group on your course and then to come home and have other friends, I loved it.

The final part of Freshers’ Fortnight was celebrated at the Freshers’ Ball and the headlining act… Wait for it…

S CLUB 7!!!!!! Well, S Club 3… But still 3 is better than none J S Club 7 were my childhood! I know every word to all of their songs, I watched all their TV shows and their film, I think it’s obvious to say… Yeah, I was a bit obsessed. So Jo O’Meara, Paul Cattermole and Bradley McIntosh were performing at Ministry of Sound for our Summer Ball! They were AMAZING and a brilliant way to finish my last ever Freshers’ Fortnight!

That’s all from me, come back soon J

Summer and My Third Year:

Hello everyone, welcome to my first blog J

Hope you are all doing well and having a great summer, when I ask myself, what have I done this summer? There is one simple answer… NOTHING! I mean, I have been working full time at the University but besides that, not a great deal has gone on L. I have had the odd thing here and there but nothing major, the highlight has to be trekking to Milton Keynes and Surrey for my friends 21st.  I travelled there in the weirdest way possible, instead of going directly through Kent, into London and then out of London to Surrey, I decided to go into London St Pancras and then out of London in the opposite direction, all the way to Milton Keynes. The reason being I have seen nothing of the world, I haven’t left England and I have only ever been to Kent, London and Cornwall, so I thought it would be nice to see the surroundings of good old England. Plus, she drives so we could drive to Surrey from Milton Keynes down the motorway with the window down and the music blaring. The weekend overall was pretty decent we had a BBQ, we went out to a club I had never been to before which was exciting and get this… It was cheese night… My ultimate favourite type of music :D But before I knew it, the weekend was over and I was back in the Clearing office.

Clearing has been quite full on, a lot more stressful than I thought it was going to be, but it has been a lot of fun and I have quite enjoyed working with a team of new people, it’s been quite exciting. Results day was so busy as well, I took 120-something chats just in that one 12 hour’s shift, which was mental. I’m happy to say that LiveChat has calmed down a lot since then, we still have quite a lot of applicants but it has moved more onto registration queries rather than clearing applications.

So besides from full time working I have been in serious prep mode for my third and final year. It is going to be so manic, but so fun, for example next year I will have my three part time jobs (Enquiry Unit Assistant, Student Ambassador and Students’ Union Shop Assistant) plus I am in the committee for two societies (Performing Arts and Tennis) plus a work placement for one of my modules and this year I am trying my hand at directing a full scale play for my third year and on top of this I will have essays and presentations coming out of my ears. So at least I will not turn around and say I’m bored next year J

Something I would like to highlight would be the University of Greenwich Performing Arts Society, I am so proud of this, last year we did not have much success with the society as it was called Glee Club and a lot of people were put off because they thought it was related to the TV show. However, this year under a new management and a new name our plan is to take the University by storm, we haven’t even begun the academic year yet and we have already been asked to perform at… [WAIT FOR IT]… Westfield’s in Stratford for a Breast Cancer Awareness event and to create a performance for an even for Black History Month. So it’s all happening with P.A. this year.

Here’s a picture of us from my first year, performing a street dance to LMAO’s Shots! This year we plan to incorporate so much more by bringing in musicians and if people can do circus skills and we plan to make ourselves much bigger and better this year.

I have just finished registering for my third year and it is all underway, I just have to found a house, read some books, plan some shows, find a work placement, research my chosen directed piece, buy my reading material and then just turn up on the day. It sounds like a lot but when you’re passionate about things; it becomes less daunting and more FUN! Which is exactly what I am going to have this year… FUN! FUN! FUN! I Will try and keep blogging regularly but as you all know from what I just told you, I’m a busy man J

Until next time, take care.
